Walter Brown, Vice President

Walter Brown is Vice President of Green Street Properties and among many duties serves as Green Street's environmental affairs coordinator and coordinated the neighborhood task force that assisted Green Street it its re-zoning effort for the Glenwood Park project.

Walter came to Green Street from the Southface Energy Institute, an influential Atlanta based non-profit organization dedicated to energy efficiency, environmentally conscious building practices, and sustainable urban development. Walter spent three years as the Senior Program Manager at Southface, where he was a key player in program development, business and government partnership development, and fund raising.

At Southface, Walter founded the Sustainable Atlanta Roundtable, a monthly discussion group active to this day, directed the Greenprints Sustainable Development conference during three high growth years for that annual green building conference in Atlanta, and helped found the Atlanta Regional Chapter of the US Green Building Council.

Prior to that, Walter worked for the State of Georgia for ten years, where he was responsible for the rehabilitation of over 5,000 homes for low to moderate-income residents.

An Atlanta native, Walter earned a BS in Community Development from Georgia State, and has pursued additional studies in architecture, urban studies, and business at Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia. Walter serves on the Board of Directors of the Freedom Park Conservancy, the Board of Directors of the Community Housing Resource Center, the steering committee for the Sustainable Atlanta Roundtable, and recently served as the founding Secretary of the Atlanta Regional Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. He is active in the Candler Park Neighborhood Organization (a past president) and in many local Atlanta planning initiatives (past Chair of NPU-N), including the Moreland Corridor Study, Planning Study for Little Five Points, and the Dekalb Corridor Study.
