Earth Share of Georgia Selected as Idea House Charity Partner

Nearly 30 environmental groups in Georgia will benefit from a home tour in Atlanta this summer, as Southern Living magazine has selected Earth Share of Georgia as the charity partner for its 2005 Southern Living Idea House at Glenwood Park.

With tours open to the public on Saturday, June 18 through October 2, Southern Living expects approximately 30,000 guests to tour the 2005 Idea House, an in-town home showcasing environmentally-responsible design and green-building techniques. Proceeds from ticket sales will help Earth Share in benefiting Georgia-based environmental groups with which they are involved, including The Georgia Conservancy, the Georgia Wildlife Federation and Trees Atlanta.

“Our partnership with Earth Share on the Idea House is a natural one,” said Walter Brown, vice president of Glenwood Park developer Green Street Properties. “Because of our environmental focus in building and design and their mission to help Georgians care for our natural resources, we’re excited for this opportunity to work together to promote environmental awareness and responsibility.”

“Earth Share had its annual Earth Day party at a just-beginning Glenwood Park in 2004, and even then we were impressed with the sustainable construction practices implemented by Green Street Properties,” said Richard Judy, executive director of Earth Share of Georgia. “Glenwood Park is a masterpiece of urban sustainability. We’re also excited to work with Southern Living, which promotes a solid environmental ethic behind its Idea Houses.”

Earth Share of Georgia organizes workplace giving programs throughout the state to assist at least 28 environmental organizations. One group that benefits from the relationship is Southface, an Atlanta-based company that encourages developers to use practical, environmentally sustainable building techniques. The Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, which promotes protection of the Chattahoochee River and its watershed, also benefits from Earth Share.
