On Saturday, June 21, in Washington D.C., Glenwood Park received a prestigious international award – a Charter Award from the Congress for the New Urbanism (the “CNU”). Glenwood Park is a 28-acre, new neighborhood being developed by Green Street Properties, with master planners Tunnell-Spangler-Walsh & Associates and Dover, Kohl & Partners. Green Street Properties Chairman Charles Brewer said, “This is perhaps the most prestigious award for neighborhood design excellence that we could hope to win.”

Glenwood Park is one of seven Charter Award winners in the Neighborhood, District, and Corridor category. CNU jury member Peter Katz states, “It’s the right project in the right place: a dense development with plenty of dignified public spaces, built on a brownfield.”

Katharine Kelley, Green Street’s President, accepted the award at the eleventh annual CNU Congress. She adds, “We hope to be the first of many Atlanta projects to receive this prestigious award from the Congress for the New Urbanism.”

Ellen Dunham-Jones, Georgia Tech’s Director of the Architecture Program, will chair the jury for next year’s Charter Awards. Ellen states, "Too often when urbanists look to Atlanta, it's for examples of what NOT to do. It's wonderful to have a project going up in this city that is bringing together so many intelligent strategies to produce a sustainable, well-designed neighborhood that we can all be proud of."
