District 1 has several active community redevelopment strategies to encourage equitable and high quality community, economic, and housing development. From the Beltline to the Turner Field LCI, District 1 residents have strong visions for our bright and shared future.
Livable Cities Initiative
Created in 1999, the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Livable Centers Initiative program connects homes, shops and offices, enhances streetscapes and sidewalks, emphasizes pedestrians, improves access to transit options and expands housing choices.

Tax Allocation Districts
District 1 is home to two Tax Allocation Districts to spur redevelopment in our neighborhoods. A tax-allocation district (TAD), also known as tax increment financing, is a defined area where real estate property tax monies gathered above a certain threshold for a certain period of time (typically 25 years) to be used a specified improvement. TADs are one of the City of Atlanta's key economic development tools.
