An accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), Zoo Atlanta inspires value and preservation of wildlife through a unique mix of education and outdoor family fun. From well-known native wildlife to critically endangered species on the brink of extinction, the Zoo offers memorable close encounters with more than 1,000 animals from around the world.
The Zoo's newest experience, Treetop Trail presented by Kaiser Permanente, opened in spring 2017. Scaly Slimy Spectacular: The Amphibian and Reptile Experience, opened in 2015, is the world's first LEED Gold-certified reptile and amphibian exhibit. Other highlights include America's only twin giant pandas, Ya Lun and Xi Lun; one of the nation's largest populations of western lowland gorillas; and the largest zoological population of orangutans in the U.S. Up-close-and-personal experiences include giraffe feeding, permitting guests to hand-feed Earth's tallest living land mammals, and behind-the-scenes Wild Encounters with giant pandas, African elephants, Aldabra giant tortoises, lemurs and warthogs.
The Zoo is open daily with the exceptions of Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Keeper talks, interactive wildlife presentations, education programs and special events run year-round. For more information, call 404.624.WILD or visit zooatlanta.org.
