Dear Cherokee Avenue Neighbors:
The Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) appreciates your patience as we continue to implement a protected bike lane along Cherokee Avenue as part of the Mayor's Action Plan for Safer Streets.
The first part of the project was completed in late 2020 and included the resurfacing and restriping of Cherokee Avenue. A second contractor will complete the bike lane striping and installation of the protected bike lane posts. This work is planned for summer 2021.
In advance of the second contractor's work, ATLDOT will implement a pop-up bike lane by installing temporary barricades along the bike lane buffer to provide a protected space for people to bike in the short term. The installation of the barricades will begin on or after May 14th and is expected occur over the course of two to three weeks. These barricades will be replaced with flexible delineator posts and curb-stops with the completion of the protected bike lane in summer 2021.
To accommodate the bike safety improvements, permanent parking restrictions will now be implemented in the neighborhood (shown on the map below). Signs prohibiting parking will be installed on or after May 14th. Enforcement will commence no sooner than May 17th and at least 72 hours after sign installation. Additional parking for Grant Park and Zoo Atlanta is available at 739 Boulevard SE. Signs directing people to the Boulevard parking structure will also be installed on or after
May 14th.
