Alyssa Cassatto and Scott Melnick are relative newcomers to Grant Park, arriving in 2017 after living in Decatur for years. The couple quickly made a style statement when they moved in, opting for an all-black exterior for their new Grant Park home. Scott is in the tech industry, and Alyssa is an interior designer and a jewelry designer with her own “Connie n’ Jack” line. So, she knew what she was doing with the cutting-edge color choice.
 
Walk in the front door and a bright, white-themed interior offers a clean backdrop for a charming home that is filled with unique art, modern style, a spiral staircase, an open kitchen and plenty of historic elements that have been retained. The stunning decor in this magazine-worthy home makes it a worthy venue for hip parties, while also offering the comforts everyone wants for day-to-day living.
 
The home had already been renovated when Alyssa and Scott purchased, allowing them to focus on the cosmetic work. But the landscaping had been neglected, so they started, literally, from the ground up and created a spectacular, modern garden that accents the black exterior. The upstairs was unfinished attic space, so they did finish that out to be an office and jewelry studio.
 
Scott and Alyssa say some of their favorite things about their house are the high ceilings, the open feel of the entire home, how quiet it is ... and they love how the black exterior came out. Feeling part of the Grant Park community came easily. So many of their close friends were already here. Plus, their dogs – two Jack Russell terriers named Zero and Pocket – love being so close to the park, where they spend a lot of time on their walks. And at home, their terrier instincts are a threat to any rodent who dares to cross their path. With all the local events, great restaurants and so much more on its way, Alyssa and Scott are already big fans of the neighborhood. “What’s not to love about Grant Park?” Alyssa said.
