Cherokee Avenue Resurfacing and Bike Lane Installation

Here comes the long-awaited bike lane! Please read this notification from Atlanta DOT along with the attached document for maps:

I am pleased to alert you to the impending start of the Cherokee Avenue Resurfacing and Bike Lane Installation project in your district on Thursday, October 1, 2020 (weather permitting).

We apologize for the confusion caused by the posting and tearing down of the “No Parking” signs in your neighborhood.  The project was originally scheduled to begin the week of September 21, but was delayed due to inclement weather.  The "No Parking" signs have been revised to reflect the date change. In addition, more signage is being posted to ensure that residents and visitors in the Zoo/Grant Park area are notified of impending construction.

In response to neighborhood concerns regarding on-street parking restrictions during the milling and paving, ATLDOT staff have worked with the contractor to develop a tentative construction schedule indicating the work areas and intended order of construction. The phased construction will allow for continued on-street parking in areas not under construction.  Working South to North, see below (and in attached maps) the work areas and intended order of construction:

  • Cherokee Avenue Resurfacing Phase 1 (Mead Street to Atlanta Avenue)

  • Cherokee Avenue Street Resurfacing Phase 2 (Atlanta Avenue to Augusta Avenue)

  • Cherokee Avenue Street Resurfacing Phase 3 (Augusta Avenue to Milledge Street)

  • Cherokee Avenue Street Resurfacing Phase 4 (Milledge Avenue to Glenwood Avenue)

PLEASE NOTE: ATLDOT staff knocked on doors in the Phase 1 area today to notify residents of Thursday’s planned construction start. Scheduling for the phased work areas is subject to change, due to weather, road condition, and other unforeseen challenges that may arise during construction. Please encourage your constituents to move their vehicles from the indicated areas prior to construction activities to avoid towing (Georgia Code 44-1-13).

Please feel free to share this information with your community constituents and stakeholders.
